Technology

KS3 Curriculum Intent and Rationale

“We’re changing the world with technology.” – Bill Gates

It is our aim that students get a technology curriculum that prepares them for the world in which we live in.

In KS3 students will complete a rotation of subjects including, textiles, design and food technology. Each topic will last a term and is designed to give students a taste of the different technologies that will support their choices at GCSE level.

Our curriculum is designed to give students the skills to problem solve, think innovatively and creatively within a range of formats from sewing to designing a recipe to improve the world around them. We thrive to provide our students opportunities to develop their skills in a wide range of technologies where students can grow in confidence and can flourish to become successful imaginative designers.

The main focus in our technology curriculum is creativity and imagination and is an area that draws from many different disciplines for example, Maths, English, Geography and art through the analysis and evaluation of products.

KS4 Curriculum Intent and Rationale

As student's progress into KS4 they choose an area to advance into. In their chosen area students will deepen their knowledge and skills, explore techniques and take more risks.

Students will develop and apply knowledge and understanding of the importance of nutrition. Students will learn the skills needed to prepare, cook and present dishes while developing an appreciation of cooking and the role food has in society and culture. Alongside preparing dishes students will also learn how to evaluate and analyse their dishes.

Students follow a stimulating curriculum which enables them to make informed decisions about a wide range of further learning opportunities and career pathways.
