Physical Education

Physical Education Department Mission Statement:

We aim to develop a lifelong love for physical activity. TMS students will continue to enjoy and take part in exercise and activity; thriving physically, socially and emotionally.

Curriculum Intent and Rationale:

Students at TMS will develop their physical literacy skills through an engaging, challenging and balanced curriculum. This enables students to achieve beyond their expectations.  The students’ PE experience will ensure that they develop their Personal, Physical, Social and Thinking skills (ME in PE / TMS Award) in a broad range of physical activities.

We aim to offer excellent opportunities to develop a healthy life-long love of physical activity and to develop a first class teaching and learning environment, where both staff and students enjoy working hard together to achieve success through perseverance with kindness and integrity.  We want all students to flourish, feeling a sense of belonging to a team and community, with belief in their healthy potential to thrive physically, socially and emotionally.

Students will be provided with a variety of opportunities and experiences throughout their time at TMS, challenging them both inside and outside the classroom. Throughout the years, students have the opportunities of experiencing a robust programme of awards, qualifications and memorable learning experiences. There is a strong emphasis on leadership skills throughout the key stages, with students able to take on additional roles other than just as a performer.

Students will develop competence in a broad range of physical activities, they are encouraged to be physically active for sustained periods of time and provided with the opportunities to compete in sports and activities inside and outside curriculum time. There will also be an emphasis on improving fitness in conjunction with health and well-being through knowledge and application, providing students with skills to lead a healthy active life.

We trust that our broad and bespoke PE curriculum will allow students to develop their love of sport and physical activity well beyond their time with us.
