Mr David Cockroft, Sixth Form Leader
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to The Mandeville School’s Sixth Form and thank you for your interest in our Sixth Form here. The school is on an upward journey of improvement and the growth of our Post-16 provision is testament to our commitment to support our students as they grow from being children into young adults.
The Sixth Form is housed in a purpose-built centre which was completed in early 2016. This allows students to access tailor-made study facilities that are conducive to learning.
The range of opportunities available to you in this Prospectus is designed to ensure that you can further develop your skills and knowledge in preparation for your next steps, whether they be in the world of further education or in the career that you plan to follow.
We believe that the next two years here at the Sixth Form will be amongst the most important in your life. You will be studying the subjects you are passionate about, making important decisions about your future and, we hope, going from strength to strength on an academic and social trajectory.
Life in the Sixth Form is different. We aim to bridge the divide between the tight structures of the GCSE courses you have studied and the wider world of work or further education. Teachers will guide your studies; they will continue to insist on high standards and that you meet the deadlines you are given but you will be encouraged to develop greater personal responsibility and self-motivation in building your capacity for greater independent study.
The move into Sixth Form represents a time where you begin to focus on your dreams and aspirations for the future. We have a commitment to supporting you on this important journey.
I am sure that you will find the information in this prospectus useful, however there is no substitute for speaking to the students who are currently studying here at The Mandeville School, and I would encourage that you take every opportunity to ask them about their experiences during your visit.
Thank you once again for your interest in The Mandeville School. I look forward to welcoming you as a student in our Sixth Form.
What skills can you expect to develop at Mandeville Sixth Form?
Intelligence is not static, and is not innate. It can be developed by students engaging in appropriate and challenging learning activities.
