Game of Our Own - girls' football programme

Posted 10th May

IMG 4341We are very excited to be able to offer our students the chance to take part in the young Girls’ Football Activators on the Game of Our Own Leadership programme, supported by Barclays. During the summer term we will provide the girls with theory and practical workshops and materials for deliverers and marketeers.

The FA and Barclays, in partnership with Youth Sport Trust, have an ambition to ensure every girl has equal access to football in school by 2024. The Game of Our Own Leadership programme provides training to design, create and deliver football opportunities for their peers. A Girls’ Football Activator on the Game of Our Own Leadership programme will, with teacher support, follow one of two leadership pathways: marketing or delivery. As a team they will be tasked with designing, creating and delivering a girls' football event as part of National School Sport week in June 2021.

As part of the programme, girls will receive virtual leadership training, kicking off with a national event on Wednesday 5th May 2021, followed by modules delivered at school throughout the summer term. Every Girls’ Football Activator will be provided with a Game of Our Own hoodie, t-shirt and resource pack to support them in their role. On completion of the programme and delivery of their National School Sport Week event, every Girls’ Football Activator on the Game of Our Own Leadership programme will achieve their YST Girls’ Football Youth Sport Award.

The Youth Sport Award is a reward and celebration scheme which helps young people to evidence their learning, progress and achievement in and through sport and physical activity. It also supports them to demonstrate the impact their involvement in sport has had on their personal development, including leadership skills, health and wellbeing and wider life skills.
