Charter Day 1- 20th Nov 2022

On the 20th of November we celebrated our first School Charter Day. Whereas last year we ran various activities throughout each term, this year our main Charter activities are happening on specific days, where all students are ‘off timetable’. This ensures that lessons are not disrupted, and that all students can take advantage of Charter activities.

This Thursday, Year 7s will be working on Relationships: exploring themes of conflict, stimulated by The Last Post Theatre Group, which is visiting us to perform a play pertaining to World War I.

Years 8s are developed their Academic skills and Knowledge: focusing on team building and participating in various challenges designed to build resilience and effective communication.

Year 9 students celebrated ‘International Day’: the students met with and learnt about people from all around the world, exploring behaviours, traditions and habits from near and far, and getting creative to develop their understanding of Culture. Many of the students came in clothing to represent their cultures. It was great to see the year group learning about cultural music and dances.

Year 10 and 11 students focused on Character and Aspiration: The rain couldn't stop the 2-year groups from taking part in outdoor team challenges to build their perseverance and confidence. The afternoon was spent focusing on the launch of the KS4 Academic Reading programme and developing some effective study skills with the amazing theatre in education company, Elevate.

Students in Sixth Form are developing their sense of Aspiration and Community.  The students took part in a CPR workshop, whilst focusing on how they can contribute to a full and rich community through volunteering. The afternoon was spent participating in a range of employer-led workshops to prepare for life after The Mandeville School.

Each half-term, our Charter Days will have a different focus and set of experiences for students; from creative, to cultural, personal exploration and trips far afield. We’ll be sharing photos and updated from our Charter activities on our Twitter feed – follow us @MandevilleLife to see more!
