OCR B: Geography for Enquiring Minds

GCSE - Geography B (Geography for Enquiring Minds) (9-1) - J384 (from 2016) - OCR

OCR’s GCSE (9–1) in Geography B (Geography for Enquiring Minds) will enable learners to build on their Key Stage 3 knowledge and skills to:

We will develop and extend student knowledge from their KS3 experience of locations, places, environments and processes, and of different scales and of social, political and cultural contexts. We will further students’ understanding of the interactions between people and environments, change in places and processes over space and time, and the interrelationship between geographical phenomena at different scales and in different contexts. We will develop and extend student’s competence in a range of skills including those used in fieldwork; in using maps; in completing and interpreting graphical data and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). We get students to apply their geographical knowledge, understanding, skills and approaches appropriately and creatively to real world contexts and to contemporary situations and issues; and develop well-evidenced arguments, applying the geographical knowledge acquired over time. We study through exciting topics and contextualised examples which will allow learners to easily engage with the subject matter and make the process of enquiry more effective. The GCSE integrates fieldwork and geographical skills into the content and assessments, giving a holistic approach to their assessment and we support student’s preparation of this throughout their studies. Students apply their knowledge to a range of scenarios and having to make the tough decisions and justify them, for example which part of the coastline to protect and which to let erode which provides students with a solid preparation for their future studies or in the workplace.
