Governor vacancies

We currently have two parent governor vacancies at The Mandeville School and would welcome interest from parents/carers for these very important roles.

We are particularly keen to have a local governing body that reflects the diverse school community and hope that many of you will want to contribute.

Governors have a really important role monitoring and encouraging the school leadership to demonstrate the great work they do and supporting them as they work towards delivering the school vision and action plan we have developed together.

As a school we are on an ambitious journey to success, with important progress being made in areas such as the curriculum, improving the outcomes of our students, increasing community engagement, continuing to promote the wellbeing of our students and staff and giving attention to the environment of the school, reducing our carbon footprint and developing our facilities.

The role of parent governor is suited to people who are:

  • Interested in being a governor and in how they can contribute to the strategic direction of the school to provide the best educational experience for all of our students.
  • Available and able to commit time to the role. It is really important to be transparent about the time needed to be effective in this role. Visiting school during the school day as well as time in reading briefing papers, attending meetings and representing the governors at events takes time, as well as attending and completing training to continue to build our skills and experience as governors. We work on the basis of the role needing around 6-8 hours’ time per month, not all of which would require physical presence at the school. There may also be occasions where governors are required at short notice to attend meetings during the daytime, which cannot be planned in advance.
  • Willing. The role is voluntary and some of the training is compulsory so interest and availability need to be combined with a willingness to invest in becoming a key part of the school community.

If you’re not sure please do get in touch (via the school office or chairofgovernors@mandevilleschool.co.uk) to chat it through with myself or one of the other governors before completing the form (which can be downloaded HERE).

Nominations need to be with us by Tuesday 31 October 2023
