AQA A Level Computer Science

Entry Requirements

The equivalent of 5 GCSEs A*-C (including mathematics, science and English).  Preferably BTEC First Award in ICT and/or ECDL – achieving a Merit or better.

Assessment

This is a 2 year full-time course, and is 80% assessed through 5 examinations and 20% non-examination based assessment.

Brief Outline of Coursework/Controlled Assessments

Students taking this course will learn:

  • fundamentals of programming, data structures, algorithms

  • theory of computation

  • data representation, computer systems and uses of computing

  • computer organisation and architecture

  • bid data, databases, communication and networking.

General Information about the Course

The AQA A level in Computer Science is a course designed with the computer scientist in mind – it combines theory with practical application.

The course will develop a student’s understanding of programming and allow them to experiment, applying theory and demonstrating their competence. 

The course is ideally suited to someone looking to pursue a career in IT technical support, engineering or looking to study a computer science course at university.
