Lee Begins Goalkeeping Revolution at Mandeville
Posted 3rd May
FORMER Premier League footballer Richard Lee will be holding a ‘free open evening’ at The Mandeville School for aspiring young goalkeepers on 24th May.
Lee, who made over 200 appearances for Watford and Brentford, is offering youngsters the chance to learn from several current and ex-professional shot-stoppers. He is committed to widening the net across Aylesbury so more goalkeepers can fulfill their potential.
Under the guise of GK Icon, Lee and a team of dedicated professionals will all convene at The Mandeville School on Wednesday 24th May between 5pm - 7pm to pass on their footballing knowledge and expertise.
In addition to the former Watford shot-stopper, other attendees will include former Coventry City, Wycombe Wanderers and current Mansfield Town goalkeeper Scott Shearer – and current Northampton Town goalkeeping coach Joel Canning.
The free coaching session is open to boys and girls of mixed abilities. It’s been designed to give south Buckinghamshire’s young shot-stoppers an insight into an array of modern day goalkeeping techniques, which have been tailored around advanced sports psychology, nutrition and conditioning programmes.
Lee, who grew-up in Aylesbury, subscribes to the school of thought that, if you have the right professional and parental guidance in your early years, anything is possible in the game. And Lee is testament to that, who went on to play against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo prior to the striker moving to Real Madrid.
The GK Icon open session, therefore, serves as a welcome precursor to enable more young people and their parents to make better-informed decisions about dedicated goalkeeper training.
The back-to-back coaching sessions will take place at The Mandeville School between 5pm - 6pm (for those aged 10 and under) and 6pm - 7pm (for those aged 11+). Goalkeepers will need to bring their football boots, gloves, shin pads and plenty to drink.
